🗡️ Siberian Iris
How to grow
Plant rhizomes shallowly in rich, moisture-retentive soil — unlike bearded iris, Siberians like their feet damp. Florida honesty: they need winter chill and cool summers, so they're a struggle below the Panhandle; consider Louisiana iris, the Gulf Coast native, instead.
Water & feeding
Keep consistently moist, especially in spring; mulch to hold moisture through heat.
Common problems
- Iris borer chews rhizomes — less common in Florida heat
- Crown rot in hot, soggy soil
- Poor or no bloom without sufficient winter chill
Harvest
Cut flower stalks for arrangements as buds open; remove spent stalks but leave foliage all season.
